SSANGYONG'S SUPERIOR PULLING POWER PARTNERS WITH BAILEY OF BRISTOL

Mar 10, 2020

SsangYong Motors UK is delighted to supply three SsangYong vehicles to support one of the UK’s largest caravan manufacturers, Bailey of Bristol, for its latest overseas roadtrip adventure. Bailey of Bristol, in association with the Caravan and Motorhome Club, is embarking on a new and inspiring 3,500-mile intercontinental caravan adventure this week to Morocco, named the ‘Sahara Challenge’.

The challenge will commence from the Bailey production facility in Bristol, travel through Spain and Portugal and across the Strait of Gibraltar into Morocco, then over the Atlas Mountains and as far south as the edge of the Sahara Desert – the birthplace of the original caravans – before returning home. The marathon journey will take 20 days to complete with the team experiencing a range of potentially extreme road and weather conditions along the way.

A new Bailey Discovery D4-4 caravan will be towed by a SsangYong Korando Pioneer, a car designed with the caravanning market in mind, and another Discovery D4-4 by SsangYong’s flagship SUV, Rexton[1] 4x4. The support team for the challenge will drive the award-winning[2] Musso Saracen pick-up that will carry crew and vital equipment. All three models represent SsangYong values to the core – a comprehensively equipped, value for money package, with a surprising level of interior refinement and infotainment, as well as an impressive 7-year/150,000-mile warranty.

Nick Laird, managing director at SsangYong Motors UK, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Sahara Challenge.  The crew will endure challenging terrain and weather, but our vehicles will be right at home demonstrating how they tackle real-world conditions, doing what they do best – rugged terrain, and towing!” Laird continued; “This is a perfect challenge for us - the caravan market has been and still is extremely important for SsangYong in the UK and we can’t wait to see the output so we can share it with our customers and our followers. It’s great to support real people, in real conditions, going back to the roots and origin of caravanning.”

The Sahara Challenge vehicles will be driven by representatives from Bailey of Bristol, the Caravan and Motorhome Club and media guests. Throughout the journey, the core team will be also joined by a wide range of guests including media representatives from both inside and outside the industry.

Talking about the forthcoming trip, Simon Howard, marketing director at Bailey of Bristol, said: “The 20-day Sahara Challenge will demonstrate just where a caravan and a SsangYong tow car can take you. We are delighted to have SsangYong’s support with three superb and capable vehicles and are very excited about the trip – watch this space!”

As they travel towards the Sahara, the team will post regular blogs/vlogs and social media updates via the Bailey of Bristol, the Caravan and Motorhome Club and the SsangYong Motors UK social media channels using the hashtag, #SaharaChallenge.
